Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have successfully apprehended seven teenagers identified as members of the notorious criminal gang known as Shila Boys. The suspects were caught in the act while carrying out an armed robbery operation at the Federal Housing Estate in Bajabure, Girei Local Government Area.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the arrest followed distress calls received by the Command on June 9, 2025. The swift response by police operatives led by the DPO Viniklang and his team resulted in the capture of all seven suspects.

Identity of the Suspects

The apprehended suspects have been identified as Ja'afar Umar (16), Bulama Abba (15), Dalha Mohammed (16), Saidu Abba (18), Safiyanu Yunusa (15), Mohammed Abubakar (15), and Abba Ibrahim (15). All suspects are residents of Jambutu in Yola North Local Government Area.

During the arrest, police recovered several items from the suspects including N12,350 in cash, one dagger, and two mobile phones. These items have been documented as exhibits for the ongoing investigation.

Criminal Activities

"The suspects attacked members of the public, dispossessing them of their valuables," Nguroje stated in a press release. He further explained that the young criminals had armed themselves with offensive weapons, causing fear and panic among residents of the area.

The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has directed relevant officers to ensure thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspects. This arrest represents a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat the activities of Shila Boys, who have been terrorizing residents across various parts of Adamawa State.

Shila Boys are known for street crimes including phone snatching, bag theft, and armed robbery, particularly targeting vulnerable residents in urban areas of Adamawa State.

The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to help maintain security in the state.
