Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the chieftaincy title of "Ugosimba 1 Enugu" (Jewel/Eagle from another kingdom) by the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council during her two-day working visit to the South Eastern state.
The conferment ceremony took place on Tuesday, with the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu, leading the proceedings alongside other officers, patrons, and members of the Council.
Recognition of Service and Humanitarian Efforts
According to Igwe Asadu, the honor was bestowed on the First Lady in recognition of her love for Enugu State and her dedicated service to the nation and humanity. He highlighted her three consecutive terms in the Senate and her Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) award.
"The good news is the humanitarian part of you. We looked at the way you love Enugu State. We are thanking you for what you do for the midwives, for the nurses. Personally, I am a nurse too," Igwe Asadu remarked.
He further commended her efforts for the less privileged, stating, "I appreciate it when it comes to the less privileged, healing the sick, clothing the naked, feeding the hungry. So, we are here to recognise and appreciate all these good works you are doing. It's only God that can pay you for your good work."
First Lady's Response
Visibly delighted by the honor, Senator Tinubu expressed her gratitude to the Government and people of Enugu State for their overwhelming acceptance and love. She described Enugu as a peaceful state, noting that she had felt inner peace since her arrival in the state capital on Monday.
"Thank you so much for all the support you have given. Today is indeed a great honour to me personally and also to my family. I love your state; it is such a very peaceful state and a very peaceful ambience," the First Lady said.
She acknowledged that while she had received other titles in the past, this particular one was "quite special" and "God-ordained." Mrs. Tinubu assured that the honor would bring good fortune to Enugu State and promised to always remember the people for their kindness.
"This moment will remain special in my heart and I will always remember your people for good and for the honour you have done for me. And this is not the end because our tomorrow is here already," she added.
The First Lady also noted that the honor extended not only to her but also to her husband, President Bola Tinubu, and their entire family, who she believed would be delighted by the recognition.
