Aliyu Zubairu has officially resigned from his position as head coach of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side El-Kanemi Warriors after a successful two-year tenure with the Maiduguri-based club.

During his time at El-Kanemi Warriors, Zubairu achieved significant milestones, including guiding the team to promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL) in his first season. His impressive record also includes leading the club to victory in the President Federation Cup last year.

Coach's Decision and Future Plans

Explaining his departure, Zubairu stated: "After careful consideration, I've decided not to renew my contract, which expires at the end of my two-year tenure. This decision stems from my confidence that I've made a meaningful contribution to the club's growth and development."

The young tactician will now concentrate on his role with Nigeria's U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles. Under his guidance, the team secured third place at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations held in Egypt last month.

Zubairu and his Flying Eagles squad are now preparing for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup scheduled to take place in Chile later this year, representing a significant opportunity on the international stage.

Legacy at El-Kanemi Warriors

Zubairu's departure marks the end of a successful chapter for El-Kanemi Warriors. His achievements with the club have established him as one of the promising young coaches in Nigerian football, having demonstrated his ability to develop talent and secure important victories during his tenure.

The club has not yet announced who will succeed Zubairu as head coach as they prepare for the upcoming NPFL season.
