Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has firmly dismissed rumors of a rift between himself and President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that they maintain a strong father-son relationship despite a viral video showing an apparent snub at a recent public event.

The incident, which sparked widespread speculation, occurred during the inauguration of the Lagos-Calabar Expressway Phase 1. In footage that circulated widely on social media, President Tinubu appeared to deliberately ignore Sanwo-Olu's greeting while shaking hands with other dignitaries, including Works Minister Dave Umahi.

Governor Addresses Relationship Status

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu downplayed the significance of the incident, stating: "There is nothing at all; he is my father, he is my leader, and we're grateful that he has given us audience today."

The clarification comes amid intense speculation about potential political tensions between the two prominent figures who have historically maintained close political ties, with Tinubu having played a significant role in Sanwo-Olu's political ascendancy.

GAC Intervention and Reconciliation

BenriNews reports that President Tinubu has since informed Sanwo-Olu that he is "no longer angry" with him. This development followed a meeting between the President and members of the Governor's Advisory Council (GAC), who visited specifically to intercede on Sanwo-Olu's behalf.

During the meeting, GAC chairman Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi acknowledged awareness that Tinubu was displeased with certain individuals in the state, particularly the governor. The council members also appealed for others who may have offended the President.

The reconciliation marks a significant moment in Lagos politics, where Tinubu's influence remains substantial even after his elevation to the presidency. The former Lagos governor continues to be a powerful political figure in the state he governed from 1999 to 2007.

Political analysts note that maintaining harmony between federal and state leadership is crucial for governance and development projects in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub.
