Tragedy struck in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State over the weekend as gunmen shot and killed a local businessman near the Federal Polytechnic Oko.
According to reports gathered by BenriNews, the incident occurred around 7 pm opposite Glamour Pizza, just across from the victim's business premises where he operated a popular beer parlour in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the deceased was driving a Lexus car when armed assailants intercepted his vehicle and shot him three times while he remained seated behind the wheel. Videos of the incident have since circulated widely on social media platforms.
Police Response and Investigation
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, has confirmed the incident, describing it as cult-related. In a statement, he revealed that swift action by police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer resulted in the arrest of one suspect.
"It was a cult-related killing, and following the swift response of the Police operatives led by the DPO, one suspect was arrested and is currently undergoing interrogation," Ikenga stated.
He further confirmed that the victim's body has been recovered and deposited in the morgue, while the victim's vehicle was secured at the scene. "The police are currently conducting investigations and interrogating the suspect," he added, promising that further developments would be communicated to the public.
This incident adds to growing concerns about security in various parts of Anambra State, where similar violent attacks have been reported in recent months.
