A motor park manager identified as AK has been shot dead by suspected cultists at his duty post in Auchi, Edo State, amid escalating tensions between rival cult groups in the area.

The victim, who managed the motor park at "Angle 90" in Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area, was reportedly shot at close range on Saturday, June 21, 2025, by gunmen who stormed the facility.

Cult Rivalry Behind the Attack

According to sources, the killing appears to be part of an ongoing violent dispute between two rival cult groups—Aye and Vikings confraternities. The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident on Sunday, stating that the victim's body has been deposited at the mortuary while efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects.

The shooting caused panic at the motor park, with passengers and other individuals fleeing for safety. BenriNews gathered that the attack is believed to be a reprisal by members of the Vikings confraternity against the Aye group.

A source, who requested anonymity, revealed that the deceased was a former member of the Aye confraternity who had allegedly distanced himself from cult activities. Despite his efforts to leave the group, he was targeted and killed.

"He was very kind, accommodating, peaceful, humble, focused on work and family," the source said, describing the deceased.

Escalating Violence in Auchi

The killing is reportedly connected to a failed assassination attempt on an Aye leader in Uzairue community, a suburb of Auchi, days earlier. Members of the Aye group allegedly blamed the Vikings for the attempt, triggering a cycle of retaliation.

Community members are now calling on the Edo State Government and security agencies to take urgent action to curb the rising cult violence in Auchi and surrounding areas.

This incident comes amid growing concerns about cult-related violence in various parts of Edo State, with authorities facing increasing pressure to address the security challenges.
