Prominent Nigerian lawyer Femi Falana has criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration, stating that its economic policies only benefit the wealthy while the masses continue to struggle with deteriorating living standards.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Monday, Falana highlighted the growing economic disparity in the country, noting that government officials appear disconnected from the reality faced by ordinary citizens.
"For members of the government—and I'm talking of top officials—it's been very rosy. One of them was singing a week ago that things are getting better," Falana stated. "Of course, for the rich, the bourgeoisie, things are getting better. But for the masses of our people, things are getting tougher because they are going through an excruciating economic crisis."
Controversial Economic Reforms
Falana's comments come as the Tinubu administration marks its second anniversary in office. The president introduced several significant economic reforms upon assuming office, including the unification of foreign exchange windows and the controversial removal of fuel subsidies.
These policies have been met with mixed reactions. While some top officials within the All Progressives Congress (APC) have celebrated the president's performance, claiming exceptional achievements, many Nigerians continue to grapple with rising costs of living and economic hardship.
BenriNews reports that the debate over the effectiveness of these economic policies continues to divide public opinion, with government supporters pointing to long-term benefits while critics highlight immediate hardships faced by vulnerable populations.
Falana, known for his advocacy on behalf of ordinary Nigerians, has consistently called for more inclusive economic policies that address the needs of all citizens, not just the privileged few.
