Christian Madu is set to part ways with Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Lobi Stars as his contract with the Makurdi-based club expires this month.
According to reports, the 31-year-old midfielder is expected to make a decision on his next career move before the commencement of the 2025/26 season.
Madu's departure comes after a challenging season that saw Lobi Stars relegated from the NPFL in the 2024/25 campaign. The experienced midfielder made 13 league appearances for the club during the season but could not help prevent their drop to the lower division.
Madu's Career Highlights
The midfielder has enjoyed a notable career in Nigerian football, with his most successful period coming at Enugu Rangers where he was part of the squad that clinched the 2015/16 NPFL title. His talent also earned him an opportunity abroad when he joined Portuguese side Nacional in 2019.
With his experience both domestically and internationally, Madu is likely to attract interest from several clubs in the NPFL despite being in the latter stages of his career.
As Lobi Stars prepare for life in the lower division, the departure of key players like Madu was anticipated following their relegation. The club will now focus on rebuilding their squad for a potential immediate return to the top flight.
Meanwhile, the NPFL has recently announced requirements for stadium approval ahead of the 2025-26 season, signaling preparations for the new campaign are already underway.
