Russia head coach Valery Karpin has admitted that Nigeria's Super Eagles will present a significant challenge for his team in their upcoming friendly match.
The Russian team, coming off an impressive 5-0 victory against Zambia in March, will face a much sterner test when they take on Nigeria at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow tonight.
Russia to Maintain High-Pressing Style
Despite acknowledging the quality of the Nigerian side, Karpin insists his team will stick to their trademark high-pressing style that has served them well in previous fixtures.
"It does not matter who we play – Nigeria or Serbia – we want to do the things that we practice in training," Karpin stated ahead of the match. "It is more difficult to press against Serbia or Cameroon than, for example, Grenada or Brunei. But the requirements are always the same."
The Super Eagles, known for their physical prowess and technical ability, are expected to provide a formidable challenge for the hosts, with Russian midfielder Glebov also anticipating a difficult encounter.
Super Eagles Confident of Victory
Meanwhile, Nigeria's camp appears confident heading into the fixture. Team captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed the team's determination to secure a win in Moscow, while coach Finidi George (Chelle) aims to maintain the team's winning momentum.
Russian football expert Byshovets has drawn comparisons between the Super Eagles and Germany, noting that both teams play "power football" – a testament to the physical and tactical challenge Nigeria presents.
The international friendly is scheduled to kick off at 6 pm Nigerian time at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, giving both teams valuable preparation as they continue their respective football campaigns.
