Manchester United's chief executive, Omar Berrada, has delivered a clear message to manager Ruben Amorim that another disappointing season will not be acceptable following the club's trophyless 2024/2025 campaign.

The Red Devils endured what has been described as their worst season in history, culminating in a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final – a loss that denied them Champions League qualification for the upcoming season.

CEO's Warning After Disappointing Season

Speaking after the release of United's latest financial results, Berrada acknowledged the club's European campaign while making it clear that their Premier League performance was unacceptable.

"We were proud to reach the final of the UEFA Europa League," Berrada stated. "But ultimately, we were disappointed to finish as runners-up in Bilbao."

"We had a difficult season in the Premier League, which we all know fell below our standards – and we have a clear expectation of improvement next season," he added, in what appears to be a direct warning to Amorim about the club's expectations moving forward.

Transfer Activity Already Underway

Despite the disappointing season, Manchester United have already begun strengthening their squad for the upcoming campaign. Matheus Cunha has arrived from Wolves in a significant £62.5 million deal, and the club is reportedly close to finalizing the transfer of Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.

These early transfer moves suggest the club is backing Amorim with resources while simultaneously setting higher expectations for results on the pitch.

The pressure will now be on Amorim to deliver a significant improvement in the 2025/2026 season, with Champions League qualification likely to be the minimum expectation from the club's hierarchy.
