The Chief Imam of University of Ibadan, Professor Muftau Abdulrahman Oloyede, has called on Nigerian leaders at all levels to manage public resources with the fear of God, especially during the current economic challenges facing the nation.
The religious leader made this appeal on Friday after leading Muslim faithful in the two Rakah obligatory Eid-al-Adha prayers, as Muslims across the globe celebrated the festival.
Submission to Allah's Will
"We should submit ourselves to the will of Allah in every position we find ourselves, particularly as Nigeria today is a bit rough economically," Oloyede stated while addressing journalists after the prayers.
He emphasized that submission to Allah's will formed the core message of his sermon, highlighting the spiritual significance of the celebration amid national challenges.
Call for Righteous Leadership
The cleric specifically addressed those in positions of authority, saying: "Our political leaders, those who are in charge of our resources, should dispense the resources well."
"Politicians and those in charge of our affairs, therefore, we call upon them to be righteous in the way they dispense our common patrimony. That is our advice for them," he added.
At the same time, we should submit ourselves to the will of Allah. That is the core message of today's sermon.
The Imam's message comes at a critical time when many Nigerians are experiencing economic hardship, making his call for responsible stewardship of national resources particularly relevant.
Eid-al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God's command. The festival emphasizes sacrifice, obedience, and submission to divine will—themes that resonated in Oloyede's sermon.
