Spanish club Real Sociedad has decided to part ways with Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq during the upcoming transfer window, BenriNews reports.
The 28-year-old striker spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at fellow La Liga side Valencia, where he made a significant contribution to their battle against relegation.
During his temporary stint with Los Che, Sadiq demonstrated his goal-scoring abilities by netting five times across 23 appearances in all competitions. Despite his impact, Valencia opted against triggering the €9 million purchase option included in his loan agreement.
Club's Decision
According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Real Sociedad's sporting director Erik Bretos has already informed Sadiq's representatives about the club's intention to sell the Nigerian international this summer.
Sadiq's time at Real Sociedad has been plagued by injuries, most notably a severe cruciate ligament tear that kept him sidelined for 45 matches. This injury setback significantly hampered his progress at the Basque club since his arrival.
The decision comes as part of Real Sociedad's squad restructuring ahead of the new season, with the club looking to free up resources and make room for potential new signings.
What's Next for Sadiq?
With his departure from Real Sociedad now seemingly inevitable, Sadiq will be looking for a new club where he can revitalize his career and showcase the goal-scoring prowess that has previously made him a valuable asset.
The Nigerian forward's experience in La Liga, combined with his physical presence and finishing ability, could make him an attractive option for clubs seeking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season.
As the summer transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen which clubs will express interest in securing Sadiq's services and what transfer fee Real Sociedad will demand for the Nigerian international.
