Kenyan President William Ruto has expressed light-hearted concern about what he jokingly termed a potential "brain drain" following the marriages of his two daughters to Nigerian men.
Speaking at a recent wedding ceremony, President Ruto humorously addressed the growing trend of Kenyan women marrying Nigerians, suggesting that Kenyan men might need to step up their game in matters of romance.
"My daughter is married to a Nigerian, and this one is now married to a Nigerian. And our guys around; I don't know, are you slow? I don't know. We need to balance this scale because at this rate, we are going to have a brain drain from Kenya," the President quipped.
Strengthening Kenya-Nigeria Relations
Beyond the humorous remarks, President Ruto highlighted that these unions reflect the strong and friendly ties between Kenya and Nigeria. He suggested that both nations should continue to build on this relationship.
"I think there is something between Kenya and Nigeria, we should pick it up further," Ruto added, emphasizing the potential for deeper bilateral relations between the two African nations.
The President's comments were captured in a video shared by Africa Facts Zone on X, where it has garnered significant attention from citizens of both countries.
This development comes at a time when Kenya and Nigeria continue to strengthen their economic and cultural ties, with Nigeria's Access Bank recently making moves to acquire Kenya's NBK, further cementing the business relationship between the two nations.
The President's remarks, while made in jest, highlight the increasing social and cultural exchanges between two of Africa's most influential nations, potentially paving the way for stronger diplomatic and economic cooperation in the future.
