Olakunle Olusegun has expressed his excitement following his first-ever call-up to the Nigerian national team ahead of their friendly match against Russia.
The 23-year-old striker, who plays for Russian Premier League champions Krasnodar, received a late invitation from Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle after several regular players withdrew due to injuries and personal reasons.
Olusegun has already joined the national team camp in Moscow and participated in Tuesday night's training session with the squad.
"It's a Privilege" - Olusegun on Super Eagles Call-Up
Speaking to the Super Eagles media team, the former Golden Eaglets player described his invitation as a dream come true.
"What every player wants is to play for their national team," Olusegun said. "So finding myself now in the Super Eagles, it's a privilege, and it's an honour for me because it's not by my power or how I play."
The call-up comes after an impressive season for Olusegun, who played a significant role in helping Krasnodar secure the Russian League title.
Currently, 22 players have reported to the Super Eagles camp as they prepare for the international friendly against Russia. The match will provide Coach Chelle an opportunity to assess new talents like Olusegun while building team cohesion ahead of more competitive fixtures.
Meanwhile, the Russian team has shown confidence ahead of the encounter, with defender Krugovoy stating that they are not intimidated by the Super Eagles.
