Former Super Eagles midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has expressed his support for potential transfers of Manchester United stars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea, stating they would significantly strengthen the Blues' squad.
Chelsea, who secured the Europa Conference League trophy last season and qualified for the Champions League, are looking to bolster their young squad under manager Enzo Maresca. The London club fielded the youngest team in Premier League history during the previous campaign, with an average starting XI age of just 24 years and 36 days.
Mikel's Endorsement of United Duo
"I like both of these players," Mikel told BenriNews. "I have no idea what the issue is with Garnacho and Ruben Amorim because for me he is one of the best players at Man United."
The former Nigeria international suggested Manchester United might be considering selling Mainoo for financial reasons: "With Kobbie Mainoo, maybe they feel they need to cash in on him to raise the funds. There are so many factors you have to look at right now with Manchester United."
Mikel was unequivocal about his desire to see the duo at Stamford Bridge: "If those are two players Chelsea want, I will take those two, definitely. They can only come in and improve us as a football club. I know if they come in, they will improve us as a team."
Chelsea's Youth Movement Continues
Chelsea's focus on youth is evident in their recent transfer activities. Liam Delap is reportedly close to finalizing a move from Ipswich, while South American talents Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian are also set to join the club. Additionally, Geovany Quenda is expected to arrive from Sporting CP next year.
The Blues had previously explored a move for Garnacho in January and are believed to maintain interest in both him and Mainoo as they continue to build a squad for the future under Maresca's guidance.
With Manchester United undergoing significant changes under new manager Ruben Amorim, speculation about potential departures from Old Trafford continues to grow, potentially opening the door for Chelsea to make their move for these highly-rated young talents.
