Former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf has expressed strong reservations about Arsenal's pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško, warning the Gunners against making what he considers a potentially costly mistake in the transfer market.
Arsenal are reportedly in preliminary discussions to sign the 22-year-old Slovenian forward during the current summer transfer window, though negotiations are still in the early stages.
Leboeuf Questions Šeško's Valuation
Speaking to ESPN, Leboeuf criticized the rumored €80 million valuation for the RB Leipzig striker, suggesting the price tag is excessive for a player yet to prove himself at the highest level.
"That is crazy [RB Leipzig's valuation for Šeško]. You have so many examples of clubs who have spent big money on players from smaller clubs," Leboeuf said. "Šeško plays for Leipzig. They are a family club, and Arsenal are going to launch him into the Premier League."
The former Chelsea defender further questioned the wisdom of such a significant investment: "What is the guarantee that Šeško is going to produce? And you are going to spend 80m euros on him? Look at Jadon Sancho, Darwin Núñez and so many others."
Sancho Comparison Raises Concerns
Leboeuf specifically compared Šeško's potential move to Jadon Sancho's troubled spell in English football. Sancho, who joined Chelsea on loan from Manchester United last season, was returned to his parent club after the Blues opted against making the move permanent.
The comparison highlights Leboeuf's concern about players who excel in other European leagues but struggle to adapt to the Premier League's unique demands and pressures.
Arsenal's interest in Šeško comes as the club looks to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season. The Gunners have been active in the transfer market, with several players already confirmed to be leaving the club this summer as manager Mikel Arteta reshapes his squad.
While Arsenal continues their pursuit of the Slovenian forward, they reportedly face competition from other Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, who are also monitoring the situation.
As the summer transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will heed Leboeuf's warning or proceed with their attempt to bring Šeško to the Emirates Stadium.
