The Kano State Ministry of Health has issued an advisory to residents regarding the health and hygiene of animals intended for sacrifice during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. The guidance aims to reduce the risk of disease transmission from animals to humans during the festive period.
In a statement released on Tuesday by Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na'isa, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, State Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf emphasized the importance of purchasing only healthy animals that can be slaughtered safely under hygienic conditions.
"This is to protect public health and prevent the spread of zoonotic infections to humans," the statement highlighted.
Proper Meat Handling Guidelines
The Commissioner further advised the public to exercise caution in how meat is handled and prepared after slaughter. He stressed that maintaining proper hygiene during cooking is crucial for preventing food-borne illnesses that could mar the celebrations.
"Washing the meat with clean water before cooking or storing helps avoid contamination," Dr. Yusuf noted in the statement.
The advisory comes as part of the government's proactive measures to ensure public health safety during the religious festival, which typically involves the slaughter of animals as a symbolic act of sacrifice.
Healthcare Preparedness
Dr. Yusuf also reassured residents that all health facilities across the state have been fully stocked with necessary medical supplies to provide adequate emergency care throughout the festive period.
This preparedness measure is part of the government's comprehensive approach to ensuring that the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations proceed smoothly without health-related incidents.
The Ministry's proactive stance underscores the importance of preventive health measures during large-scale celebrations, particularly those involving animal slaughter and communal feasting.
