Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has hailed the club's acquisition of Matheus Cunha, expressing excitement over the midfielder's arrival as the Red Devils' first summer signing.
Ferdinand, speaking on his channel, praised the signing while urging the club's hierarchy to continue strengthening the squad following Manchester United's disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season.
"He needs to reboot this attack. We don't look like we're going to score goals in open play unless it's Bruno [Fernandes] or maybe Amad [Diallo]," Ferdinand said via Metro.
"We've taken Wolves' top goalscorer [Cunha] this season. He's got 16 goals to his name in all competitions. He's one of the players that I mentioned a few weeks ago: if I had a shopping list, he would be on there."
Premier League Experience a Key Factor
The former England international highlighted Cunha's Premier League experience as a significant advantage, noting: "He knows the Premier League so he doesn't need any adaptation time. This is a huge factor."
Manchester United's poor league performance has left many supporters frustrated, with the club narrowly avoiding relegation. The Red Devils will need substantial reinforcement to improve their standing next season.
More Signings on the Horizon
According to reports, United could also be targeting Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP and Nigeria international Victor Osimhen, who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.
Osimhen, who impressed in the Turkish league with his goalscoring prowess, is reportedly also a key target for Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal this summer.
The signing of Cunha represents the first step in what appears to be a significant rebuild for Manchester United as they look to return to the upper echelons of English football after a disastrous 2024-25 campaign.
