Rangers International FC General Manager Amobi Ezeaku has shouldered full responsibility for the club's disappointing performance in the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, where they finished 10th after winning the title the previous year.
The Flying Antelopes, who were crowned NPFL champions in the 2023-24 season, managed only 52 points from 38 matches this campaign, representing a significant decline in form. The Enugu-based club also suffered elimination from the 2025 President Federation Cup at the semi-final stage.
"Let me inform all that I take full responsibility for what happened at the club in the 2024/2025 season," Ezeaku stated during a meeting with the club's stakeholders.
Learning from Past Experiences
Despite the disappointing season, Ezeaku expressed optimism about the club's future, emphasizing that the management has begun implementing changes based on lessons learned from their underwhelming campaign.
"In the game of football what we have is always to take the lessons of the past season to prepare for the coming season," he explained. "We were champions of 2023/2024 and ended this season on 10th spot while losing out in the semi-final of the President Federation Cup. We have learnt our lessons and have started taking actions."
The stark contrast between Rangers' championship-winning season and their subsequent mid-table finish highlights the competitive and unpredictable nature of the NPFL. The club's management appears focused on rebuilding for the 2025-26 season, with Ezeaku's accountability setting the tone for the organization's approach to recovery.
Rangers, one of Nigeria's most storied football clubs, will be looking to reclaim their position among the NPFL elite when the new season begins. Fans will be watching closely to see what changes the management implements following this period of reflection.
