The National University Commission (NUC) has approved two new academic programmes for Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, expanding the institution's educational offerings.

According to information obtained by BenriNews, the newly accredited programmes are Applied Geophysics and Geology, both under the Geophysics Department. The accreditation is valid for five years following the Commission's October/November 2025 assessment exercise.

The institution's Director of Academic Planning, Pharm. Muhammed Asuku, confirmed the development, noting that the approval came after a thorough evaluation to determine the quality of the programmes.

Asuku referenced a letter issued by the NUC Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Commission's Executive Secretary, which stated that the approval aligns with the Commission's statutory responsibility to establish standards and accredit academic programmes across Nigerian universities.

"The academic circle of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, under the distinguished and well-respected Vice Chancellor Prof. A.A. Salawu, received this news with great joy and happiness. We must congratulate the management and staff of the university for this remarkable achievement within a short period of time," Asuku stated.

This latest development builds upon CUSTECH's growing academic portfolio. In 2023, the NUC had previously approved 11 programmes for the institution, demonstrating its steady expansion since establishment.

The five-year accreditation period provides stability for current and prospective students interested in pursuing careers in geophysics and geology, fields that are particularly relevant to Nigeria's natural resource sector.

Confluence University of Science and Technology continues to establish itself as a growing institution in Nigeria's higher education landscape, with a focus on science and technology disciplines.
