The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a directive to all educational institutions to verify and upload their students' data on the Student Loan Application System (SLAS), which has now been fully digitized.
According to a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, the upgrade aims to streamline and accelerate the student loan processing experience for both institutions and applicants.
"With this upgrade, all accredited institutions are now required to request access to SLAS to verify and upload student data related to loan applications," Oluwatuyi stated. "This is a critical step that ensures the timely processing and disbursement of approved student loans."
How Institutions Can Access SLAS
Institutions that have not yet onboarded onto the system are requested to send an access request to support@nelfund.ng without delay.
Once granted access, institutions will be able to view a real-time dashboard of their students' loan applications, verify submitted data, and track the status of each application.
Importance of Institutional Verification
Oluwatuyi emphasized that verification and data upload by institutions are mandatory steps before final approval and disbursement can be completed. She urged all institutions to take immediate action in the interest of their students.
"If a student's loan portal status currently shows 'Verified,' this indicates that the student application has successfully passed initial checks," she explained. "However, final approval and disbursement are subject to confirmation and upload of students' data by the institution."
Once this process is completed, the status will be updated to "Disbursed" when the payment of fees has been processed.
