Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged his old club to sign an experienced centre-forward this summer following the acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Red Devils have reportedly agreed to pay £62.5 million for Brazilian forward Cunha, who was previously linked with Arsenal but chose United, the club he supported growing up.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand emphasized the importance of swift action in the transfer market, highlighting three key positions Manchester United should prioritize.
"I think if I were the recruitment team now, if I was advising them on anything now, I'll be saying please make sure you do not forget an experienced number nine," Ferdinand stated.
The legendary centre-back declined to suggest specific names, noting he has done so repeatedly in the past. "I'm not going to say names. I've said the names too many times," he added.
Beyond a striker, Ferdinand also identified midfield as an area needing reinforcement. "I'd go and get a midfielder as well. A midfielder who can either dictate the play and pass and be the orchestrator," he explained.
Completing his transfer wishlist, Ferdinand added: "So those two players will be the next ones, a centre forward and a centre midfielder, and also a right back."
The comments come as Manchester United begin their summer transfer activity with the Cunha signing, who reportedly chose the Red Devils despite interest from other Premier League clubs.
United are expected to be active in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season after several disappointing campaigns by their historical standards.
