Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap has completed his medical tests ahead of a £30 million transfer to Chelsea, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues activated Delap's release clause last week, moving swiftly to secure the 22-year-old forward who is now set to be officially announced as a Chelsea player.

Romano confirmed the development on Monday via his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating: "Liam Delap has completed also final part of medical tests at Chelsea and he can be considered new #CFC player. £30m move completed from Ipswich."

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reportedly wants Delap to join his squad for the upcoming Club World Cup tournament in the United States later this month, indicating the striker will be integrated immediately into the first team setup.

The young forward is expected to provide competition for existing Chelsea strikers Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu, potentially strengthening the Blues' attacking options for the new season.

This transfer comes amid reports that Maresca is preparing for a significant squad overhaul, with speculation that up to 15 players could be sold as the Italian coach reshapes the team according to his vision.

The signing has generated mixed reactions from football pundits, with former Watford striker Troy Deeney suggesting Delap might have been better served joining Manchester United rather than Chelsea at this stage of his career.

However, others have praised the striker's abilities, with Gordon Strachan reportedly claiming that "defenders hate facing him" and suggesting Manchester United missed an opportunity by not signing the forward.

Chelsea fans will now eagerly await the official announcement and Delap's potential debut in the upcoming Club World Cup tournament.
