Chelsea Football Club has officially announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Dario Essugo from Sporting CP in a deal worth €22.3 million. The 20-year-old talent has committed his future to the London club by signing a long-term contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

Essugo joins Chelsea after impressing during his loan spell with Spanish side Las Palmas last season, where he established himself as a regular starter, making 27 appearances and scoring one goal across all competitions.

The Portugal Under-21 international has already built an impressive resume despite his young age. He made history by becoming Sporting CP's youngest-ever player when he made his senior debut aged just 16 years and six days against Vitoria de Guimaraes in March 2021.

His development continued with appearances for Sporting's B team before gaining further first-team experience with the senior squad, where he featured 23 times. Prior to his Las Palmas loan, Essugo also spent time with Primeira Liga side Chaves during the second half of the 2023/24 season, making 14 appearances.

This signing represents another statement of intent from Chelsea as they continue to invest in young talent with high potential. Essugo's arrival follows reports that Liam Delap is also close to joining the Blues, having reportedly completed his medical ahead of a £30 million move.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca appears to be reshaping his squad ahead of the new season, with reports suggesting up to 15 players could be departing the club to make way for new signings.

The acquisition of Essugo adds depth to Chelsea's midfield options as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League campaign and look to challenge on multiple fronts.
