Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has declared his team's intention to extend their impressive run of form when they face Russia in an international friendly match at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Friday.
The upcoming fixture will mark the first-ever meeting between Nigeria and Russia at senior level, adding historical significance to the high-profile friendly encounter.
Chelle, who has overseen an impressive start to his tenure with three victories and one draw in four matches, emphasized the importance of maintaining the winning mentality that has characterized his time with the team.
"Now we go to Russia, and our goal is to win every game. We're not just travelling for a match — we're going there to win," Chelle told reporters ahead of the fixture.
The Malian tactician acknowledged the mental challenge of quickly refocusing after their recent match against Jamaica, which appears to have been particularly demanding.
"Right now, I think we're still in Jamaica — mentally, it feels like it because of how tough the game was. But we must now shift focus," he added.
The Super Eagles appear to be in good form under Chelle's guidance, having recently claimed the 2025 Unity Cup after defeating Jamaica in what was described as a "difficult" win. The coach had made four changes to his lineup for that final match.
Friday's friendly against Russia presents another opportunity for the Nigerian national team to test themselves against European opposition as they continue to build momentum under their new coaching regime.
