Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has made several significant changes to his squad ahead of Nigeria's international friendly match against Russia scheduled for Friday at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Brentford defender Benjamin Fredrick leads the list of four new additions to the team, alongside home-based stars Isaac Saviour, Sodiq Ismail, and Sikiru Alimi. All four players were part of the Super Eagles squad that recently competed in the Unity Cup invitational tournament.

Fredrick and Ismail both featured prominently in the Unity Cup final against Jamaica, earning starting positions, while Alimi saw action in the match against Ghana during the tournament. The quartet's inclusion significantly increases the home-based representation in the squad, which initially featured only Niger Tornadoes midfielder Papa Daniel.

The friendly match comes on the heels of Nigeria's success at the Unity Cup, where Chelle led the team to victory. Following that triumph, the coach expressed his ambition to secure more silverware with the national team, stating, "We must continue our winning run against Russia."

Despite the absence of key players Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman for the upcoming friendly, Russia's head coach Valery Karpin has dismissed suggestions that Nigeria will be weakened, indicating he still expects a challenging encounter.

The Super Eagles have already departed for Russia, traveling via Morocco, as they look to build on their recent positive momentum under Chelle's leadership.

This friendly represents another opportunity for the Nigerian national team to test their strength against European opposition as they continue their development under Chelle's guidance following their Unity Cup success.
