The Arewa Joint Action Movement (AJAM) has praised Nigeria's security forces for the elimination of notorious bandit kingpin Kachalla Dogo Isah and 44 other terrorists in Zamfara State, while criticizing former President Muhammadu Buhari's handling of insecurity in Northern Nigeria.
In a statement issued by AJAM convener Lauretta Bako, the group highlighted that the change in administration in 2023 marked a "pivotal moment" in the fight against insecurity in the region, expressing optimism that peace could return to the troubled northern states.
"The introduction of high-tech combat enablers has been pivotal in enhancing the operational effectiveness of Nigeria's security forces," the statement read. "The killing of high-profile criminals, including gun runners and bandit leaders, has not only dismantled key networks of violence but has also sent a strong message to remaining criminal elements that the state is resolute in its fight against insecurity."
Security Improvements Across Northern Nigeria
The group noted several security improvements across the region, including the expansion of Operation WHIRL STROKE to parts of Taraba State and the establishment of the National Mission Force Brigade in Samaru Kataf, which has addressed security challenges in Southern Kaduna.
According to AJAM, highways once considered dangerous, such as the Kaduna-Abuja route, are now safer for travelers, facilitating trade and movement. Markets in previously volatile areas like Giwa, Birnin Gwari, and Jibia are reportedly experiencing a resurgence, with local leaders and residents confirming improved security conditions.
"Furthermore, the operational achievements in the North West and North Central Zones are not just limited to high-profile arrests and neutralizations; they also include the discovery and dismantling of criminal infrastructures," the statement continued.
The group's implicit criticism of the Buhari administration was clear in their assertion that "the change in administration in 2023 marked a pivotal moment in our fight against insecurity," suggesting that previous efforts under Buhari were inadequate in addressing the security challenges that have plagued the northern region for years.
The elimination of Kachalla Dogo Isah represents a significant victory in Nigeria's ongoing battle against banditry and terrorism in the North, which has displaced thousands and disrupted economic activities across multiple states.
