Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has left Nigeria's Unity Cup camp in London due to personal reasons, following his substitute appearance in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Ghana.
The veteran winger made his return to the national team for the first time since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Musa entered the match against Ghana in the 62nd minute and delivered a commendable performance in Nigeria's triumph over their West African rivals.
His absence means he will not feature in Nigeria's upcoming Unity Cup final against Jamaica, which follows their victory over the Black Stars.
Return to Form with Kano Pillars
Musa's national team call-up came after he revitalized his career with Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Since joining the former NPFL champions last October, the forward has been in impressive form, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in 23 appearances.
Prior to his Kano Pillars move, Musa had been inactive following his departure from Turkish side Sivasspor after the 2023 AFCON. His lack of club football during this period had kept him out of the national team setup.
The former CSKA Moscow star's return to the Super Eagles fold was facilitated by the team's new head coach, who included him in the squad for the tournament in the United Kingdom.
Nigeria will now prepare to face Jamaica in the Unity Cup final without their captain as they look to claim the trophy in London.
