Black Stars of Ghana head coach Otto Addo has explained his team's 2-1 defeat to Nigeria's Super Eagles in the Unity Cup semi-final match played on Wednesday night at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.

The Super Eagles dominated the early proceedings, taking a commanding lead through goals from Cyriel Dessers and Semi Ajayi before Ghana's substitute Thomas Asante pulled one back for the Black Stars with 20 minutes remaining.

Speaking after the match, Addo attributed the loss to his team's lack of cohesion and Nigeria's more experienced squad, noting that several of Ghana's top stars were absent from the tournament.

"It's not always easy, especially when we have players who haven't played together often," Addo said. "Nigeria has a more mature team that adapted quicker. We struggled to press, engage in duels, and maintain our defensive structure."

The Ghanaian coach highlighted how his team took time to settle into the game, which gave Nigeria the advantage to establish an early lead that proved decisive.

With this victory, Nigeria advances to the Unity Cup final where they will face Jamaica, who secured their spot in the final earlier in the tournament.

The match continues the long-standing football rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana, with the Super Eagles claiming bragging rights on this occasion in what was another competitive encounter between the West African neighbors.
