Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has expressed satisfaction with the performance of home-based players following Nigeria's 2-1 victory over Ghana's Black Stars in the ongoing Unity Cup tournament.

Chelle, who included three Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) players in his starting lineup, praised their contributions to the team's success in the thrilling encounter.

Local talents Sodiq Ismail, Papa Daniel, and Sikiru Alimi were given the opportunity to showcase their abilities on the international stage, with Ismail providing the assist for Cyriel Dessers' opening goal.

Speaking to the media after the match, Chelle emphasized the importance of giving opportunities to domestic league players.

"These players, they have some qualities," the Malian tactician stated. "My job is to analyse. My job is to make some choices. If I'm wrong, then I'm guilty. But the reality is that I want to give some chances to these guys. Because I need to put in my team some guys who can add something because we need to win."

The decision to integrate home-based players appears to have paid dividends, with all three NPFL stars putting in impressive performances that contributed to overcoming their West African rivals.

Following this victory, the Super Eagles have advanced to the final of the invitational tournament where they will face Jamaica on Saturday.

The Jamaicans had earlier secured their place in the final, setting up what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the Unity Cup 2025.
