The Nationwide League One (NLO) has cracked down on match-fixing in Nigerian football, imposing a two-year ban on players from four clubs involved in compromising match results at the Maracana Centre in Lagos.

Players from ACT di Sports Oyibo FC, Franceex FC, Bison FC, and Seamoriow FC have been sanctioned for their involvement in the scandal. Additionally, each club has been fined N500,000, and all matches played by these clubs in the current season have been cancelled.

The disciplinary action follows an investigation into suspicious results from matchday nine fixtures. Two matches raised red flags: ACT di Sports Oyibo's 2-9 loss to Seamoriow and Franceex's 9-0 victory over Bison.

According to the NLO's findings, Bison FC deliberately conceded nine goals to give Franceex an advantage on goal difference. Similarly, Seamoriow FC received favorable treatment from ACT di Sports Oyibo, who allowed nine goals in an attempt to help Seamoriow outperform Franceex in the standings.

In an unprecedented move to ensure transparency and deter future misconduct, the NLO announced that the names and photographs of all individuals involved in the match-fixing scandal will be published.

This decisive action by the NLO demonstrates the league's commitment to maintaining the integrity of Nigerian football and comes after earlier reports that the organization was investigating match-fixing allegations at the Maracana Centre.

The NLO has previously taken strong measures against clubs involved in misconduct, including the expulsion of Campos FC and A&A Kiviasennus for match manipulation, and Sky Limit FC for assaulting match officials.
