The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reinstated experienced fitness trainer Per Karlsson to the Super Falcons technical crew as the team intensifies preparations for the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Karlsson, a former hammer throw athlete from Sweden, previously worked with the nine-time African champions during the tenure of former head coach Thomas Dennerby. His return is expected to bolster the team's physical conditioning ahead of the continental showpiece.

The fitness expert will now collaborate closely with interim head coach Justine Madugu as the Super Falcons aim to reclaim their dominance in African women's football.

Preparation for WAFCON 2024

The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group B of the WAFCON 2024 finals, where they will face Botswana, Tunisia, and Algeria in the group stage. As part of their preparation, the team has scheduled friendly matches against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in a double-header on May 30 and June 2, 2025.

These warm-up fixtures will provide valuable competitive experience for the squad and allow the technical team, now strengthened by Karlsson's expertise, to assess the team's readiness for the tournament.

The Super Falcons, who have won the Women's Africa Cup of Nations a record nine times, are looking to bounce back after failing to secure the title in the previous edition. The addition of Karlsson to the technical crew demonstrates the NFF's commitment to providing the team with the necessary support to achieve success in Morocco.

Several key players, including Rasheedat Ajibade, Ashleigh Alozie, and Rinsola Babajide, have already arrived at the team's camp for the upcoming friendly matches against Cameroon, signaling the team's serious preparations for the continental championship.
