The Nigeria Immigration Service has successfully apprehended Obi Levi Obieze, a notorious suspected kidnapper and ritualist who was attempting to flee the country, Comptroller General KN Nandap confirmed on Thursday.
Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, was arrested at Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road while trying to escape on a motorcycle. The suspect had been previously declared wanted by the Enugu State Police Command for his alleged involvement in kidnapping and ritual killings.
According to a statement issued by Immigration Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the suspect's identity was confirmed through a National Identity Management Commission enrollment slip found in his possession. During initial questioning, Obieze reportedly admitted to the alleged crimes.
"The Nigeria Immigration Service is collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force for the suspect's handover and further investigation while reaffirming its commitment to Border Security," the statement added.
Obieze, a resident of Umuojor village in Isiagu Community, Enugu State, is reportedly a native doctor linked to the recent kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl. The victim was allegedly abducted by three men while walking with her father to their farm earlier this week.
Police operatives later rescued the girl from a shrine purportedly connected to the suspect. Reports indicate that Obieze's community had recently discovered an underground site allegedly filled with dead victims at his premises.
The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by Nigerian security agencies to combat ritual killings and kidnappings, particularly in southeastern Nigeria where such crimes have raised significant concerns among local communities.
