Apostle Elijah Jack's Foundation (AEJF) has appealed to Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno to establish a comprehensive statewide mass transit system that would connect rural communities to urban centers across the state.

The Executive Director of the foundation, Elijah Jack, emphasized that such an integrated transportation network would significantly increase access to markets, reduce travel costs, and stimulate trade across local government areas in the state.

Jack suggested that the government could implement the project through public-private partnerships (PPPs) to alleviate funding pressures while ensuring sustainable service delivery.

Maritime Economic Hub Potential

"We want a maritime economic hub. Akwa Ibom's coastline and proximity to the Gulf of Guinea present a golden opportunity. Building a functional jetty system and revitalizing the Ibom Deep Seaport project can position the state as a key player in regional trade, attracting foreign investment and creating thousands of jobs," Jack stated.

The foundation also advocated for an affordable housing scheme with local content, noting that such an initiative would not only address housing deficits but also boost the local economy by engaging artisans, builders, and suppliers within the state.

Financial Support Mechanism

To support these development initiatives, Jack advised the government to "create a special-purpose financial institution or agency that supports housing loans, transport fleet financing, and construction, micro-loans for residents and transport entrepreneurs."

The appeal comes as part of broader discussions on infrastructure development and economic growth strategies for Akwa Ibom State, with stakeholders increasingly emphasizing the need for integrated approaches that connect rural communities to economic opportunities.

The foundation believes that implementing these recommendations would create a more inclusive economic environment and improve the quality of life for residents across both rural and urban areas of the state.
