Armed bandits have killed two people and abducted several others, including adolescent girls, during an attack on Sabon Sarah community in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State early Wednesday morning.
Security analyst Bakatsine first reported the incident on his X handle, stating: "Bandits attacked Sabon Sarah community in Bakura LGA, Zamfara State. They killed two people, injured one and abducted several people including adolescent girls during the attack."
As of press time, authorities in Zamfara State have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Rising Violence in Zamfara
The attack on Sabon Sarah is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have plagued Zamfara State in recent days. Earlier this week, armed bandits invaded Katuru village in Shinkafi Local Government Area, injuring two people and abducting two women.
In a separate incident during the same period, bandits stormed a mosque during evening prayers in Unguwar Galadunci, a community in Anka LGA. Several worshippers were kidnapped, and many others sustained injuries during the attack.
Zamfara State has become one of the epicenters of Nigeria's banditry crisis, with thousands of residents killed, abducted, or displaced by the ongoing violence. Communities across the state live in constant fear as attacks continue with alarming frequency.
Calls for Action
In response to the escalating violence, civil society groups have urged both federal and state governments to take urgent and decisive action to protect lives and property in the region.
Amnesty International has also condemned the attacks, describing them as "another sign of the government's failure to protect its most vulnerable citizens."
The persistent attacks in Zamfara highlight the ongoing security challenges facing Nigeria's northwestern region, where banditry has evolved from isolated incidents to a complex security crisis affecting multiple states and communities.
