Armed bandits have killed at least two people and abducted several others, including adolescent girls, in a fresh attack on Sabon Sarah community in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The attack, which occurred early Wednesday morning, was reported by security analyst Bakatsine on his X handle. According to the report, one person was also injured during the violent raid.

As of press time, authorities in Zamfara State have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

This attack is part of a disturbing pattern of escalating violence in Zamfara State, which has become a hotspot for banditry in recent days. The state remains one of the worst affected by armed banditry in Nigeria, with thousands of residents killed, abducted, or displaced from their homes.

Recent Wave of Attacks

Earlier this week, armed bandits invaded Katuru village in Shinkafi Local Government Area, where they injured two people and abducted two women.

In a separate incident during the same period, bandits stormed a mosque during evening prayers in Unguwar Galadunci, a community in Anka Local Government Area. Several worshippers were kidnapped, and many others sustained injuries during the attack.

The rising violence has prompted civil society groups to call on both federal and state governments to take urgent and serious steps to protect lives and property in the state.

Amnesty International, a global human rights organization, has condemned the attacks, describing them as "another sign of the government's failure to protect its most vulnerable citizens."

The situation in Zamfara highlights the ongoing security challenges facing Nigeria's northwestern region, where banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and cattle rustling have become increasingly common despite military operations and peace initiatives.

Local communities continue to live in fear as these attacks have severely disrupted agricultural activities, education, and economic development in the affected areas.
