Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has recommended Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez as the ideal signing for his former club during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Speaking on The Overlap's Stick to Football podcast, Henry expressed his admiration for the Argentine forward, describing him as "one of my favourite nines out there at the minute."
The Gunners are reportedly in the market for a new striker after finishing the 2024/25 season without a major trophy. Manager Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his squad, with several high-profile forwards including Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, and Liam Delap already linked to the North London club.
Henry highlighted Alvarez's versatility and work ethic as key attributes that would benefit Arsenal. "We [Arsenal] need a nine. We have been talking about it: putting pressure on, playing it long, low, whatever you want to do," Henry said.
The Arsenal icon also praised Alvarez's technical abilities, referencing a recent free-kick goal and his capacity to hold up play. "You see the free-kick he scored the other day? He can hold the ball alone," Henry noted.
Henry further commended Alvarez's stamina and commitment, stating: "He played at the Olympic Games, he played the Copa America, and I don't hear him saying he is tired. The way he plays it, I just like him."
Despite his enthusiasm for the potential signing, Henry acknowledged the practical challenges of securing Alvarez's services, concluding: "But is it possible [that Arsenal can sign him]? I don't know."
Arsenal's search for a clinical striker continues as they aim to mount a stronger challenge for silverware in the upcoming season.
