Plateau United technical adviser Mbwas Mangut has expressed pride in his team's ability to maintain their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) status despite widespread doubts about their survival prospects.
The Peace Boys concluded their challenging 2024-25 campaign on a high note with a 1-0 victory over Enyimba in Aba, securing their position in the top half of the league table against expectations.
"Nobody gave us a chance to remain in the NPFL," Mangut told Plateau United's media. "We didn't get a trophy but I believed that we proved a point."
Reflecting on the season's challenges, Mangut highlighted the personal growth he experienced during the campaign. "Every game comes with different challenges. We started from week 1 to week 38, and I would say I learnt a lot getting patience and believing in what you are doing," he said.
The coach acknowledged facing criticism throughout the season but emphasized the importance of staying focused. "Even though they criticize you when doing the right thing, sometimes close your ears and continue doing the right thing," Mangut added.
Plateau United's resilience was evident in their season statistics, recording 16 wins, nine draws, and 13 defeats across their 38 matches. This performance was sufficient to secure their place in Nigeria's top-flight football for another season.
The team's final day victory over Enyimba in Aba proved crucial in their quest to avoid relegation, demonstrating their determination to overcome the odds that had been stacked against them throughout the season.
