The Nationwide League One (NLO) has launched an investigation into alleged match-fixing incidents following two suspicious fixtures played at the Maracana Centre in Lagos.

According to a statement released by the league body on social media, two matchday nine games are under scrutiny: ACT Sports Di Oyibo's 2-9 loss to Seamoriow Game, and Francexx's 9-0 victory over Bison.

The NLO stated that both match results will undergo "serious scrutiny to determine if there is a match compromise that can bring the game to disrepute due to build-up to the match."

As a precautionary measure, the league body has suspended the league table pending the outcome of the investigation.

It was noted that Francexx and Bison had initially refused to honor their fixture but reversed their decision after the league organizers threatened them with expulsion from the competition.

History of Disciplinary Actions

This is not the first time the NLO has dealt with disciplinary issues. The league has previously taken strong action against clubs involved in match manipulation and other violations.

Earlier incidents saw Campos FC and A&A Kiviasennus expelled for match manipulation, while Positive FA was removed from the league for missing three matches. Sky Limit FC also faced expulsion after their officials assaulted match officials.

The current investigation underscores the NLO's commitment to maintaining the integrity of the league and taking decisive action against any form of match-fixing or manipulation that could tarnish the reputation of Nigerian football.

Football stakeholders await the findings of the investigation, which will determine the fate of the clubs involved and potentially lead to further disciplinary measures.
