Werder Bremen manager Ole Werner has expressed confidence in Felix Agu's ability to excel with the Super Eagles, following the defender's recent call-up to the Nigerian national team.
The 25-year-old defender, who previously represented Germany at youth level, has now been cleared to play for Nigeria and has already joined the Super Eagles camp ahead of the Unity Cup tournament.
Agu is in line to make his debut appearance for Nigeria in their upcoming match against Ghana's Black Stars on Wednesday.
Werner praised Agu's development and believes that international football will further enhance the full-back's career progression.
"All experiences that players can have in their careers that go beyond club football are fantastic," Werner told Deichstube. "Felix has developed well and had a brilliant season. After a short injury break, he came back strongly and was a key part of our final spurt because he was in top form."
The defender's call-up comes after an impressive season with Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga, where his performances have caught the attention of the Nigerian football authorities.
The Unity Cup tournament provides an opportunity for Agu to establish himself in the Super Eagles setup as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.
Nigeria's match against Ghana on Wednesday will be closely watched by fans eager to see how the new addition to the squad performs on his potential debut for the three-time African champions.
