Niger Tornadoes technical adviser, Majin Mohammed, has identified playing away from their home turf as the primary reason behind the team's disappointing performance in the just-concluded 2024-25 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
The Ikon Allah Boys were forced to use multiple stadiums throughout the season, including the Bafo Kontangora Stadium in Minna, Lafia City Stadium in Lafia, and Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, which Mohammed believes significantly impacted their campaign.
"It was a good start for us in the season, but the league is a marathon. Our first fault was leaving our home ground in Minna. I think that's where we have most of our problems," Mohammed told the club's media.
"The lack of home support really affected us. If you look at the other two teams that played away from home—Sunshine Stars and Lobi Stars—they also had the same problem, but we are lucky because of the quality that we have."
The coach also highlighted injuries as another factor that hampered the team's performance throughout the season.
"Injuries also did their part, but we thank God we survived the season," he added.
Despite their struggles, Niger Tornadoes managed to escape relegation on the final day of the season, finishing in 13th position with 51 points from 38 matches.
The 2024-25 NPFL season concluded with Heartland FC and Akwa United being relegated, while Nasarawa United's Anas Yusuf claimed the top scorer award.
