Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has approved the immediate removal of Barrister C.O.C. Akaolisa from his position as the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
The announcement was made through a press statement issued by Declan Emelumba, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy. According to the statement, Akaolisa has been directed to hand over all government property in his possession to the State Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice without delay.
Akaolisa, who has been a key member of Governor Uzodinma's administration since his first term, was considered part of the governor's inner circle. His dismissal comes as a significant shake-up in the state's executive council.
This development follows closely on the heels of another high-profile removal in the state's judiciary. Just weeks ago, the newly appointed Chief Justice of Imo State, Theophilus Nzeukwu, was removed from office following recommendations from the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC), which found irregularities in his appointment process.
The governor's office has not provided specific reasons for Akaolisa's dismissal. However, the timing suggests possible restructuring within the state's executive and judicial leadership.
Political observers in the state are watching closely to see who will be appointed as the new Attorney General and whether this signals the beginning of a broader cabinet reshuffle in Governor Uzodinma's administration.
