Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu has opened up about his decision to represent Nigeria's Super Eagles instead of Germany, describing it as "a pretty easy decision" ahead of the Unity Cup invitational tournament in London.

The 25-year-old, who previously represented Germany twice at youth level, received his first call-up to the Nigerian national team under coach Eric Chelle for the upcoming tournament.

Speaking to NFF TV in London, Agu explained the factors behind his international switch: "I had the first contact with the Federation. I right away wanted to speak to the coach (Eric Chelle) and I had good talks with the coaching staff. Once we had the call, it was a pretty easy decision for me to come here because it's a good way also to connect with my Nigerian side, with my roots."

The Bundesliga star, who enjoyed an impressive season with Werder Bremen, joined his new international teammates for training on Monday and expressed satisfaction with the reception he received.

"It's been now one and a half days with all the guys. It's been very good. Everyone accepted me pretty well," Agu said. "We spent one training session already, and yeah, it's nice being here. I'm happy to be called up and I'm enjoying my time."

The full-back is expected to make his debut for the Super Eagles in their upcoming match against Ghana's Black Stars on Wednesday as part of the Unity Cup tournament being held in London.

The match against Ghana is anticipated to be competitive, with Ghana's coach Addo previously stating that the encounter would not be treated as a mere friendly.

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has also made his return to the national team for the tournament and has called for support from Nigerian fans ahead of the Ghana clash.
