The All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for the November 8 Anambra State election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has confidently vowed to deliver the state to the ruling party, following his official flag presentation by President Bola Tinubu.
Ukachukwu made this declaration while addressing State House Correspondents on Monday after he and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, received the APC flag from President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
"He has given us a charge to go and bring Anambra to the centre, and that's what we're going to do. Anambra cannot continue to be a one-party system," Ukachukwu stated, referring to the President's directive.
The gubernatorial hopeful highlighted President Tinubu's recent visit to Anambra, noting that the President "saw how ready and how charged the party people are in Anambra" and "was happy about the turnout of the people that came out to receive him."
Explaining his confidence in securing victory against the incumbent All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ukachukwu revealed that he was formerly an APGA senatorial candidate who left the party with his supporters to join the APC.
"I was a former senatorial candidate of APGA. I left APGA with all my supporters to join APC. The Labour Party, the YPP and other political parties have joined us in the journey," he said.
Ukachukwu further claimed that over 80 groups are preparing to join their campaign, stating that "this makes APC to be bigger. It means nothing is left of APGA in the state."
Dismissing concerns about challenging an incumbent, the APC candidate pointed to precedents across Nigeria. "It's not the first time an incumbent will be losing an election; it happened in Zamfara, in Imo and other places. Even in Anambra too, so it's not new to us in Anambra," he added.
The Anambra gubernatorial election is scheduled for November 8, 2025, and will be a key test of the APC's growing influence in the South-Eastern region of Nigeria, traditionally dominated by other political parties.
