Kano Pillars forward Ahmed Musa has expressed delight at his return to the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming Unity Cup invitational tournament in London.

The 31-year-old veteran, who has been absent from national team duties since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire, is currently with the team in London as they prepare for the tournament.

"I'm always happy whenever I get the call-up so I'm very happy to be back," Musa said in a video posted on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) TV. "It has been a long time but I don't think there's any difference so we just wait and see on the day of the game what is going to happen."

The Super Eagles are set to face their eternal rivals, Ghana, in a friendly match at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, London on Wednesday. This match forms part of the Unity Cup tournament where Nigeria aims to defend their trophy against Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Musa's return comes at a time when several key players including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi have been omitted from the squad for the friendly matches.

The Super Eagles have already held their first training session in London as they prepare for the tournament. Meanwhile, Ghana will be without some of their star players including Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, and Antoine Semenyo for the match against Nigeria.

The Unity Cup presents an opportunity for both teams to test their squad depth and for players like Musa to make a case for regular inclusion in future competitive fixtures.
