Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has secured a prestigious appointment to the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the global body responsible for determining and overseeing the laws of football worldwide.
Oliseh confirmed his new role on Monday through an announcement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing his enthusiasm about the appointment.
"Thrilled to announce my appointment to the International Football Association Board (IFAB)! IFAB is the global guardian of football's laws, responsible for determining the laws of football, shaping the beautiful game for players and fans worldwide. Honored to contribute to its mission!" Oliseh wrote.
This appointment places the former Nigerian international in a position to work alongside some of football's most influential figures, including legendary former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, who currently sits on the Football and Technical Advisory Panels.
Oliseh and Wenger are not strangers to collaboration, having previously worked together within FIFA's technical study group in recent years.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Juventus midfielder, who also coached the Nigerian national team between 2015 and 2016, will now play a key role in shaping the future of football regulations and standards at the highest level.
IFAB, established in 1886, is football's rule-making body and consists of representatives from FIFA and the four British football associations. The organization is responsible for defining and amending the Laws of the Game, which are applied worldwide.
Oliseh's appointment represents another significant achievement for Nigerian football personalities on the global stage and potentially gives African football greater representation in decisions affecting the world's most popular sport.
