The Yobe State Police Command has recorded a significant security achievement with the rescue of two kidnapped victims and recovery of sophisticated weapons following a successful operation to dislodge a kidnappers' den in Buni-Yadi.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the operation was carried out on May 25, 2025, by the Gujba Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with local vigilantes.
"The Police identified the den of the criminal elements and, with the support of community members, stormed the location after a gun duel," the statement revealed.
The operation was initiated following a distress call from a resident of Buni-Yadi. During the confrontation, the kidnappers reportedly escaped with injuries, abandoning their victims and leaving behind an AK-47 rifle with two magazines loaded with 25 rounds of ammunition.
"The victims were rescued unhurt and taken to the hospital for medical checkups," SP Abdulkarim added.
The Police Command has intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects for subsequent prosecution. This operation follows a recent success in Fika local government area, where operatives burst a kidnapping syndicate after they abducted a 22-year-old girl.
The successful operation highlights the ongoing collaboration between security forces and community members in combating kidnapping and other criminal activities in Yobe State.
