Katsina United head coach, Azeez Audu, has boldly declared that his team will be title contenders in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) next season, following their 15th place finish in the just-concluded 2024/25 campaign.
The Chanji Boys secured their NPFL status for another season after defeating Kwara United 1-0 at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Sunday in their final match of the season.
Speaking after the crucial victory, Audu expressed confidence in his ability to transform the team's fortunes in the upcoming season.
"Next season, we will fight for the league because I am coming back with something different," Audu stated. "It's time to correct our mistakes ahead of the new season."
The coach also acknowledged the unwavering support of the club's fans throughout what has been a challenging season. "Thanks to our electrifying fans for standing with us throughout the season," he added.
Katsina United's 15th position finish in the 20-team NPFL table was enough to secure their top-flight status, while teams like Heartland and Akwa United were relegated on the final day of the season.
The 2024/25 NPFL season has now concluded with Nasarawa United's Anas Yusuf claiming the top scorer award, highlighting individual brilliance amid team struggles across the league.
Football analysts will be watching closely to see if Audu can deliver on his ambitious promise to transform Katsina United from relegation battlers to title contenders in just one season.
