Nollywood actor Godwin Nnadiekwe has been rushed to hospital following an incident on a movie set where he reportedly suffered internal bleeding after being kicked in the chest by fellow actor Zubby Michael.
According to an official statement released by Nnadiekwe's management on Saturday evening, the actor is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the filming incident.
"We regret to inform you that Actor Godwin Nnadiekwe was rushed to the hospital this evening. He is undergoing treatment for internal bleeding following an incident involving a kick on the chest during filming with his colleague Zubby Michael," the statement read.
The management assured fans that they are committed to providing the best possible care for the actor and promised to share timely updates with the public and the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) board.
Prior to the official statement, Nnadiekwe had taken to Instagram to provide context about the incident, revealing that Zubby Michael was not supposed to be involved in the scene where the injury occurred.
"During a scene, I received a kick to the chest from my colleague, who wasn't part of the script or directed by the director," Nnadiekwe explained in his post. "It's caused me serious pain. Had to get medication for my chest to feel better today. I did all these by myself. No assistance!"
The incident has raised serious concerns about safety protocols on Nollywood sets. Nnadiekwe highlighted the lack of immediate medical support and safety measures available during production, calling for structured insurance policies, first aid availability, and stricter adherence to directorial instructions.
"When we're working without insurance policies or readily available first aid, unexpected physical actions like this, even if accidental, can have real consequences," he stated, emphasizing that all physical scenes should be intentional, rehearsed, and properly supervised to prevent potentially life-threatening situations.
The actor further appealed to his colleagues in the industry to prioritize safety on set. "Please let us all look out for each other and ensure our sets are always safe spaces where everyone feels secure and protected. Our health and safety are paramount. Our well-being should always come first."
As of the time of reporting, Zubby Michael has not publicly responded to the incident. The Actors Guild of Nigeria has also yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
This incident comes at a time when safety concerns in Nollywood have been increasingly scrutinized, especially following the tragic death of actor Jnr Pope in a boating accident earlier this year during a film production.
