Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reportedly ordered the eviction of Channels Television's correspondent and cameraman from the Government House in Uyo following the circulation of a controversial defection video.
The video, which went viral on Friday, shows Governor Eno informing his commissioners about his intention to defect from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while instructing them to either join him or resign from their positions.
In the trending footage, the governor can be heard saying: "It's no longer news that I am moving party, if you don't know, I don't know what else you know. I am told that some of you are saying you will not come, you are free, absolutely free not to join me but you won't be in my state cabinet."
He further stated: "So be prepared to resign the day I announce I am moving because you are an appointee and your loyalty is to me. You can't be in my cabinet and play anti-party. It's not a threat, it's what it is. I won't beg you to come."
While Channels Television's reporter, Chris Moffat, could not be reached for comment on the eviction, a Government House source who requested anonymity confirmed the development, stating that the governor was "very angry over the leaked video."
"It is true, what you heard is true, that is the situation here in the government house. It is not unconnected with the trending video that surfaced on Friday," the source revealed.
This development comes amid growing speculation about Governor Eno's political future. In a related statement reportedly made earlier, the governor had indicated he was leaving the PDP, saying he doesn't "have Wike's kind of strength," in an apparent reference to Rivers State's former governor Nyesom Wike who has remained in the PDP despite working with the APC-led federal government.
The governor's planned defection represents a significant political shift in Akwa Ibom, a state traditionally considered a PDP stronghold since Nigeria's return to democracy in 1999.
As of the time of this report, neither the governor's office nor Channels Television has issued an official statement regarding the eviction.
